On the sensitivity of NMR unreliability to non-exponential repair distributions

چکیده
The failure and repair of modules in an N-Modular Redundant (NMR) system are governed by a failure time distribution and repair time distribution, respectively. It is generally reasonable to assume that a module’s failure time distribution is a simple exponential distribution. However, it is not reasonable to assume that the repair time distribution is also exponential. Reliability models with non-exponential repair have a higher computational complexity than a model of the same system with an exponential repair time distribution. This paper presents the results of a systematic study to determine whether non-exponential repair distributions produce significant differences in calculated NMR system Unreliability, relative to an exponential repair distribution with the same Mean Time to Repair (MTTR). Our approach is to embed Erlang repair distributions in Generalized Stochastic Petri Net (GSPN) models of NMR systems and evaluate the Unreliability. Our results show that for a wide range of system parameters, the choice of a repair time distribution has minimal impact on the calculated Unreliability. Rather, it is the MTTR that is the dominant parameter affecting Unreliability.

Testing a Point Null Hypothesis against One-Sided for Non Regular and Exponential Families: The Reconcilability Condition to P-values and Posterior Probability
In this paper, the reconcilability between the P-value and the posterior probability in testing a point null hypothesis against the one-sided hypothesis is considered. Two essential families, non regular and exponential family of distributions, are studied. It was shown in a non regular family of distributions; in some cases, it is possible to find a prior distribution function under which P-va...
متن کاملEffects of Probability Function on the Performance of Stochastic Programming
Stochastic programming is a valuable optimization tool where used when some or all of the design parameters of an optimization problem are defined by stochastic variables rather than by deterministic quantities. Depending on the nature of equations involved in the problem, a stochastic optimization problem is called a stochastic linear or nonlinear programming problem. In this paper,a stochasti...
متن کاملOn Bivariate Generalized Exponential-Power Series Class of Distributions
In this paper, we introduce a new class of bivariate distributions by compounding the bivariate generalized exponential and power-series distributions. This new class contains the bivariate generalized exponential-Poisson, bivariate generalized exponential-logarithmic, bivariate generalized exponential-binomial and bivariate generalized exponential-negative binomial distributions as specia...
متن کاملStress Analysis of Two-directional FGM Moderately Thick Constrained Circular Plates with Non-uniform Load and Substrate Stiffness Distributions
In the present paper, bending and stress analyses of two-directional functionally graded (FG) circular plates resting on non-uniform two-parameter foundations (Winkler-Pasternak foundations) are investigated using a first-order shear-deformation theory. To enhance the accuracy of the results, the transverse stress components are derived based on the three dimensional theory of elasticity. The s...
متن کاملProbability Distribution Fitting to Maternal Mortality in Nigeria.
The consequences of Maternal Mortality (MM) cannot be overemphasized. It inhibits population growth resulting into loss of lives among others. This work tends to obtain the maternal mortality rates (MMR) in Nigeria, identify some fitted distributions to MMR and determine which of the distributions best fits the data. A comprehensive Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) was carried on MM and the MMRs...
